The PSG-FAIMER Regional Institute's Fellowship is a part-time two-year fellowship program designed for South Asian health professions educators who have the potential to play a key role in improving health professions education at their home Institution:

The First Year:

On Site: The first session consists of six days of intensive course at PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research PSGIMSR), Coimbatore India during April 2009.

Off-Site:  This is the second session or the Intersession between the two on-site visits during which the Fellow implements the curriculum innovation project at the Fellow's home institution. The intersession activity also involves over-the internet co-mentoring of Fellows to help with their projects and also learn & discuss issues relating to Medical Education by active engagement in the Internet discussion groups.

The Second Year:

On-Site: This is the third session during which the Fellows return to PSG for 4-5 days to undergo training in advanced Educational Techniques including Educational Research, Change Management etc for sustaining & expanding their curricular change initiatives in their home Institution. They also present their Curriculum Project findings and prepare for Mentoring role to help the incoming first year Fellows

Off-Site: This is the fourth session which is done in the fellow's home institution. Co-mentoring of the first year fellow is done over the Internet. Networking with Educational Leaders from all over the world is also done so that global exchange of experiences takes place which facilitates and expedites curricular changes directed towards better learning by the students in their home institution.

The program is thus uniquely designed to teach educational methods and leadership skills, as well as to develop strong professional bonds with other medical educators in the region. It is based on the experience of  "The FAIMER Institute" ,a Medical Education Leadership Program in Philadelphia, USA and is supplemented by their International Faculty who will be available at PSG for the program.

The selected participants will travel to Coimbatore for the two sessions in April 2009 & April 2010. Funding is available to support Fellows’ travel by train (2AC), local expenses and course fee. The cost of carrying out the project in the home institution, however, is not included. This is generally not a problem since the project is directed towards improving student learning in home Institution, and so costs involved are borne by home institution.

Sixteen fellowships are on offer for this year. While preference will be given to faculty working in South India, the application is open for anyone in the South Asia Region.

Application for Fellowship: The application and selection process is centralized for all FAIMER Institutes and is through the On-line method (No paper-based applications)
